5 Things to do Before Putting Your Home on the Market

1. Have a pre-sale home inspection. Be proactive by arranging for a pre-sale home inspection. An inspector will be able to give you a good indication of the trouble areas that will stand out to potential buyers, and you’ll be able to make repairs before open houses begin.

2. Organize and clean. Pare down clutter and pack up your least-used items, such as large blenders and other kitchen tools, out-of-season clothes, toys, and exercise equipment. Store items off-site or in boxes neatly arranged in the garage or basement. Clean the windows, carpets, walls, lighting fixtures, and baseboards to make the house shine.

3. Get replacement estimates. Do you have big-ticket items that are worn our or will need to be replaced soon, such your roof or carpeting? Get estimates on how much it would cost to replace them, even if you don’t plan to do it yourself. The figures will help buyers determine if they can afford the home, and will be handy when negotiations begin.

4. Find your warranties. Gather up the warranties, guarantees, and user manuals for the furnace, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and any other items that will remain with the house.

5. Spruce up the curb appeal. Pretend you’re a buyer and stand outside of your home. As you approach the front door, what is your impression of the property? Do the lawn and bushes look neatly manicured? Is the address clearly visible? Are pretty flowers or plants framing the entrance? Is the walkway free from cracks and impediments?

Imagine the town of Mooresville with lovely tree lined streets, decorative street lampposts and manicured parks! A town where people gather to shop for antiques, art, and eat. A town where green spaces are connected by bike and walking trails. A place where commuters can relax and sit at an outdoor cafe or meet friends at a local club after a hard day at work. This is the vision that that the town is planning to achieve within the next ten years. The goal is to create a unique town that is a destination site that encourages art, fine dining and cultural events for the surrounding community.

The plan focuses on several main areas of development. First, the downtown business area. The plan includes utilizing the lanes behind main street stores. The lanes will be changed to allow street access to shops, shared sidewalks, and decorative street lamps. The development of the lanes will connect broad and main streets and encourage a flow of pedestrian shopping and dining. Church street will see a similar transformation.

A downtown use of green spaces is included to create outdoor parks and pavillions. Biking and walking trails will connest the areas as much as possible. The parks will encourage the use of the downtown area for concerts, art shows and other cultural events.Upper floors of businesses will be utilized for downtown residential development similar to the “birkdale” design.

Utility lines are to be buried and decorative gateway signs to the town will be implemented.
Upscale grocery stores, shops and possibly a YMCA at the old IGA store will make the town of Mooresville a destination to go to.

Future development also includes the mill area. The steets of the mill area will be redesigned to include sidewalks, trees, lampposts and side parking. This will decrease the traffic speed in the area. The historic mill homes will be restored. The Burlington Mill may undergo a transformation of residential and commercial developmentas well. The new Mazeppa Road Park with have amenities likely to include three softball fields‚ a baseball field‚ dog park‚ a BMX/mountain bike trail‚ tennis courts‚ playground structures‚ a trail system‚ a recreation center‚ soccer fields and practice fields.

The John Franklin Moore Memorial Park planned across from the depot would include an interactive water fountain and pavilion.

Land has been purchased on Cornelius Road for a park and a possible recreation center‚ and contractors are currently working on two more Mooresville parks: Bellingham Phase 2 and Nesbit Street Park.

All of the plans are still a work in progress. Please visit the town hall to speak with the design team and attend their planning meetings. Pictures and designs of the plans are hanging on the wall and will help you to better visualize the amazing changes that will occur.
